Return to Emerald Hill

Tucked in a quiet corner of Orchard Road, Emerald Hill is a residential neighbourhood rich in the Peranakan (aka Baba aka Straits Chinese) culture. It is one of the best place in Singapore to see the Baba architecture. Emerald Hill is a perfect setting in town where you can have a nice stroll and test your camera. Surprisingly, this little known residential enclave is within Orchard Road busy shopping belt.

Transforming Jurong

You may have heard a lot about Jurong becoming a gateway in the west region in recent years but have you taken a walk yourself to feel the heartbeat around the Jurong East MRT station? One of the highlights besides the BIG Shopping malls, is the Elevated Pedestrian Network known as J-Walk. This new concept offers a very nice walking experience. J-walk provides a seamless pedestrian access between developments in the whole of Jurong Gateway without having to come down to the street level.

Balestier Road – of chicken rice, bak kut teh and tau sar piah

What comes to your mind when Balestier Road is mentioned? Chicken rice, food, shop houses, Sun Yat Sen Villa, low budget hotels, busy road et cetera. Balestier is known for its food such as bak kut teh, chicken rice and tau sar piah with budget hotels sprucing up in the area. Balestier is also home to many low rise shop houses, lighting shops, Fragrance Hotels and Sun Yat Sen Villa.

Bras Basah Road - did you know?

I did a google on Bras Basah Road. The original name was Beras Basah, Malay for ‘wet rice’. More than a hundred years ago, it was a place used to dry the wet rice. In the 70's, Bras Basah was filled with schools such as Raffles Institution, St Joseph Institution and Convent of Holy Infant Jesus. And for that reason, many of us still remember Bras Basah as a place where you could buy school text books.

Today, Bras Basah is filled with iconic landmarks such as SAM (former St Joseph Institution), CHIJMES (former Convent), SOTA, SMU and the likes. Bras Basah is full of characters; a good place to take a walk with your camera.

falling in love with photography all over again..

X100S is so hot! Nite photography is very fun and very addictive with X100S. I have just invested in a very good Sirui carbon tripod. My past tripods were either too small to do anything serious or they were too damn heavy to lug around for outdoor photo takings. With the Sirui T-025 tripod which weighs a mere 0.7kg, I can lug it around easily anywhere during nite shooting.

Little India is possibly the most colourful place in Singapore. It is a very exciting and vibrant place to do street photography. Here you can find gaily painted  shop houses and buildings. The best way to appreciate Little India is to take a walk with a camera.
